David May has spent the last two seasons trying to prove to the Manchester public that he is worthy of wearing the red shirt of United.
Played out of position, in his early United days, he made many mistakes, and with injuries disrupting his progression, he languished in the United reserves, unable to break up the formidable partnership of Bruce and Pallister.
But, in the 1995-96 season Bruce and Pallister both suffered from injuries and May got his chance, and grabbed it with both hands. He performed brilliantly in the centre of defence and even scored the important opening goal in the last fixture of the Premiership season at Middlesbrough.
With Steve Bruce now with Birmingham, local lad May surely has the chance to make himself a regular fixture on the United teamsheet.
