The FA Cup Final 1963
Leicester City 1-3 Manchester United
Wembley, 25th May 1963
The season had seen United fighting relegation, when they
faced Leicester in this Cup Final, as Leicester had
finished fourth in Division One United appeared to be the
underdogs. However, as is often the case, appearances can
be deceptive.
The Scottish element of the team combined forces to score the
1st goal after 29 minutes, Crerand made a pass to law who shot
the ball home past Banks.
After 57 minutes the second goal was hammered over the line after
Banks had only half saved an attempt made by Bobby Charlton. With
10 minutes remaining Keyworth dived and managed to head a successful
goal into the net, courtesy of a twice taken free kick. After
a further 5 minutes had elapsed Herd took victory beyond the grasp
of Leicester when he hammered home the 3rd goal.
