One of the stars of Euro 96, Karel played his first game at Old Trafford in the Czech Republic's game against Germany - which the Czech's lost 2-0.
He will be remembered for scoring one of the goals of the tournament, in the quarter-final against Portugal, a mazy run and an outstanding Lob from 18 yards.
Poborsky started his career at his local Dinamo club, and then moved to Ceske Budejovice where he played for three years, making 82 league appearances and scoring 15 goals. He then joined Victoria Zizkov for one season, scoring 10 goals in the process.
He made his international debut in February 1994 against Turkey and has now made 20 appearances for the Czech Republic.
Last season his former club, Slavia Prague, won the Championship and were semi-finalists in the UEFA Cup. Poborsky could come up against his former teammates is this years Champions League.
Known as the 'express train' Poborsky will be hoping to be another in the long line of brilliant United wingers. He will though, have to earn his place in the United line-up, and will be competing against David Beckham and Nicky Butt for a midfield slot. |
