TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR - 1995-96 SEASON

Alan Sugar had finally won over the Spurs fans the previous season when he completed the signing of Jurgen Klinsmann, the German had been a great hit and scored 29 goals in all competitions for Tottenham in the previous season.
Klinsmann had left Spurs in the summer to return to Bayern Munich much to the dismay of the fans and to the utter disbelief of Sugar.

Klinsmann's replacement was Chris Armstrong from Crystal Palace, he cost £4.5 million and was always going to have a difficult time winning over the fans after Klinsmann.

Gerry Francis also signed Clive Wilson on a free transfer from Q.P.R.

Spurs did not start the season well, and were without a win until September, also missing from the Spurs team was Darren Anderton, who was struggling with a reoccuring injury.

Spurs' form changed dramatically in Setember, when they won all their games, Teddy Sheringham netting in each.

At the beginning of October Gerry Francis completed the signing of Newcastle's Ruel Fox for £4.2 million, but poor form halted Spurs' rise up the league.

November brought a return to form and a derby win over arch-rivals Arsenal.
Spurs reached third spot in the Premiership in the middle of December and title-talk was rife at White Hart Lane. New Years Day saw Spurs' best result of the season, a 4-1 hammering of Manchester United.

The title was proved to be beyond Spurs in the new year, and Europe was the target set by Francis, but only one win in their last six games put paid to that hope and Spurs finished in 8th place in the Premiership.

The pairing of Chris Armstrong and Teddy Sheringham started to pay dividends after a slow start by Armstrong, Sheringham finishing with 16 Premiership goals and Armstrong 15.

Tottenham did not do themselves justice in the cup competitions, losing to Coventry in the 3rd round of the Coca-Cola Cup and Nottingham Forest in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
