Tottenham have finally clinched the signing of £2.6million Norwegian striker Steffen Iversen from Rosenborg.
Manager Gerry Francis said: ``We have spent a lot of time and done a lot of work to bring Steffen here and he will go straight into the squad and I'm hopeful this will be a turning point for us.''
Francis said: ``When we have been talking to Rosenborg about buying him they gave us the impression that 10 or 12 major clubs had also inquired - including PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Ajax, Liverpool and Manchester United.
``But we did business the proper way and we have done our homework early, getting to know Steffen and his family while other clubs were sleeping.
``It's a really big signing for us and we need him straight away because of our injuries. I'm convinced he will do a tremendous job for us.''
Iversen said: ``Tottenham were the only club that made an acceptable offer for me and I am hopeful I have made the right choice coming here.''
The powerful 6ft 2in striker who has 17 under-21 caps for Norway, scoring 13 goals for them, added: ``What helped me decide to come to England and especially Tottenham is that my friend Espen Baardsen is already with the club as their reserve goalkeeper.
``I'm sure he will help me settle in but I don't see any real problems with that.
``It will be a change from Norway and a bit strange because Rosenborg have now reached the next stage of the European Cup with a big match against Juventus now coming up but I am happy with the decision I have made.''
