Swiss International defender Ramon Vega signed a three and a half year contract having impressed during the Euro 96 Championships. Italian Serie A club Cagliari had looked set to keep hold of Ramon until the end of the 96/97 season but seemingly gave up the fight as their season petered out in the New Year. Vega joins John Scales in a defence which has been transformed by Gerry Francis since the start of the 96/97 season and represents another coup for the London club once again beating off the attentions of Leeds United for the highly rated international.
