Mainly a left-back but could perhaps be described more accurately as a utility player because he can slot as comfortably into the midfield or left-wing and he is a natural attacking player blessed with fine passing skills. He signed for Spurs on a free transfer from QPR in June 1995. The 34-year-old Manchester-born Wilson started his career with his home town club Manchester City after being spotted playing junior football. From there he joined Chelsea in March 1987 for 250,000 but neever firmly established himself with the west London club, although he did win a then Second Division championship medal with them in the 1988-89 season, before moving to Loftus Road in July 1990 for 450,000. His carrer is enjoying somehting of a renaissance and while his signing for Spurs caused a few eyebrows to be raised he has taken the opportunity with both hands to force his way into the team.
